Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 31, 2026

Story Industries, Inc. ("Story Industries," "we," "us," or "our") operates Ouna, a conversational companion available as a mobile application, and the website at withouna.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Your stories are yours. We built Ouna around that principle.

What Information We Collect

When you visit our website

We collect only what is necessary to make the site work:

  • Signup information — if you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and phone number. This is stored securely and used only to contact you about Ouna.
  • Cookies. We do not use first-party cookies for tracking. If we run advertising campaigns, third-party advertising platforms may set cookies to measure ad performance. See the Cookies section below for details.
  • No fingerprinting. We do not collect browser fingerprints or build visitor profiles.
  • Basic server logs — our hosting provider processes standard web request data (IP address, browser type, page requested) to serve the site and protect against abuse. We do not access or analyze this data for marketing purposes.

When you use the Ouna app

If you create an account and use the Ouna app, we collect additional information:

  • Phone number — required to create your account and verify your identity.
  • Display name — the name you'd like Ouna to use when speaking with you.
  • Birth year — required during setup to help Ouna understand the time periods of your life.
  • Email address — optionally provided.
  • Profile photo — optionally uploaded.
  • Voice conversations — when you talk with Ouna, your voice is recorded and transcribed. This is how Ouna remembers your stories and builds on previous conversations. Recording requires your explicit permission via your device's microphone access. You can revoke microphone access at any time in your device settings.

Information generated during use

  • Transcripts — text versions of your conversations with Ouna.
  • Memory graph — a structured representation of the people, places, and events you've mentioned, and how they connect.
  • Narrative summaries — themes and conversation topics identified across your conversations.
  • Call metadata — duration, timestamps, and technical quality metrics for each conversation.

Information collected automatically by the app

  • Device information — your device type and operating system, for app compatibility.
  • Usage data — how you interact with the app (screens visited, features used, session timing). We use this to understand how people use Ouna and to improve the experience.
  • Push notification token — if you allow notifications, a token that lets us notify you when a conversation summary is ready.
  • Crash and feedback reports — if the app encounters an error, technical details may be sent to help us fix it.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide the service — your name, birth year, and conversation context are used so Ouna can listen thoughtfully and build on what you've shared.
  • Remember what you've told us — transcripts and the memory graph allow Ouna to recall your stories, the people in your life, and the themes that matter to you.
  • Improve your experience — narrative summaries are generated to help deepen your conversations over time.
  • Contact you — if you signed up on our website, we use your email to send you information about Ouna. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Keep your account secure — your phone number verifies your identity.
  • Send you notifications — only to let you know a conversation summary is ready, and only if you've allowed notifications.
  • Understand how people use Ouna — usage data helps us identify what works well and what needs improvement.
  • Fix problems — crash reports and technical logs help us identify and resolve issues.

What we do not do with your data

We do not use your personal stories, voice recordings, or transcripts to:

  • Train artificial intelligence models
  • Show you advertisements
  • Build marketing profiles
  • Share with other users
  • Sell to anyone

How Voice Conversations Work

When you talk with Ouna, third-party service providers work together in real time to make the conversation possible. These include providers for:

  • Voice call management — routing and coordinating the live conversation
  • Speech recognition — converting your spoken words to text
  • Language understanding — generating Ouna's responses based on your conversation
  • Voice synthesis — creating Ouna's spoken voice
  • Content analysis — identifying people, places, and events you mention

Under our agreements with these providers, they do not retain your conversations for their own purposes and do not use them to train their models. After each conversation, the recording and transcript are transferred to our own secure storage and removed from provider systems.

Where Your Data Is Stored

Your data is stored on servers located in the United States, using the following types of infrastructure:

  • Web hosting and content delivery — website and signup data
  • Cloud storage — voice recordings and transcripts
  • Relational database — account information, call records, and conversation summaries
  • Graph database — your memory graph (the people, places, and events you've mentioned)
  • Authentication service — account sign-in and push notifications

Third-Party Services

In addition to the voice conversation providers listed above, we use third-party services for:

  • Website hosting and signup processing — your name and email from the signup form
  • Account creation and sign-in — your phone number, name, and email
  • Push notifications — your device notification token
  • In-app analytics — anonymized usage patterns (screens visited, features used, session timing)
  • In-app feedback and crash reporting — your user ID, crash details, and any feedback you submit
  • Advertising platforms (website only) — if we run ad campaigns, platforms may receive anonymized conversion data to measure ad performance

We do not use session replay, social media trackers, or advertising SDKs within the app.

Cookies

Our website does not set first-party cookies for tracking or analytics. Our hosting provider may set a strictly necessary security cookie to protect the site from automated abuse. This cookie does not track you across websites and is not used for advertising.

If we run advertising campaigns (for example, through Google or Meta), those platforms may set third-party cookies on our website to measure ad performance and attribution. These cookies are governed by the respective platform's privacy policy. You can control third-party cookies through your browser settings.

Data Retention

  • Website signup data (name, email) is kept until you ask us to remove it.
  • Voice recordings and transcripts are kept for as long as your account is active, so Ouna can remember your stories.
  • Account information is kept for as long as your account is active.
  • Memory graph data is kept for as long as your account is active.

When you delete your account, all of your data is deleted. See "Deleting Your Data" below.
